TL;DR: The idea that chronic pain is a nervous system dysfunction relies on assumptions that are highly likely to be wrong. Training the body for better muscle balance has 4 major variables that can be implemented incorrectly. This drastically affects the perception of the efficacy of training muscle balance. Because these variables can go wrong so easily, academic studies can understandably conclude that training muscle balance is not effective in fighting pain.
