The hamstring. Many physical therapists or athletic trainers will tell you to strengthen the gluts to avoid knee pain which is correct; however, the gluts are only an indirect effector of the knee while the hamstrings connect directly too it. More often than not, someone with knee pain also has improper hamstring activation.
