Sciatic Nerve Pain Relief (Releasing Tight Piriformis)

Sciatic nerve pain symptoms can be caused by the sciatic nerve beiang inflammed or irritated by a low back injury. If you injured your lower back and you have sciatic pain in your buttock region that may radiate into the back of the thigh and into lower leg or foot, you should definitely see a doctor to get a proper assessment and treatment.

If you’re sciatica symptoms aren’t caused by low back disc injury or herniation, and you’re still having sciatic nerve pain, one of the common causes that can be missed is due to a tight piriformis that can be compressing the sciatic nerve.

Treatments for this type of sciatic nerve pain can be helped through piriformis stretching & exercises. First, you want to release the piriformis muscle that could be pinching the sciatic nerve by doing isometric contractions. Then, secondly you want to encourage more extensibility by rotating the hip joint inward. This exercise movement causes the piriformis to be more open so it doesn’t cause as much compression to sciatic nerve.
