Yoga for Sciatica Part 3 – psoas and upper quadriceps

The hip flexors – mainly psoas and quadriceps can also cause sciatica, tight lower back muscles or pain across the lumbar area. When these muscles get overly tight they pull the pelvis forward to create a more anterior tilt, thus leading to over curvature and pressure in the lumbar (especially L4-S1). This can lead to disc bulges and other misalignment in the vertebrae of the spine. When one psoas gets tighter than the other, it can also pull your hip up and cause other compression and other imbalances in the entire sacro-lumbar region.
